What is High Potential and Gifted Education?
HPGE stands for High Potential and Gifted Education. In the NSW Department of Education context, HPGE is structured around four distinct domains:
- Intellectual - Students who demonstrate advanced cognitive abilities, problem-solving skills, and academic achievement beyond their age group.
- Creative - Students who show originality, innovative thinking, artistic flair, and talent in areas such as the arts, writing, drama, or other creative pursuits.
- Social - Students who excel in leadership, emotional intelligence, empathy, and collaborative skills—those able to positively influence, unite or uplift peers.
- Physical - Students who possess advanced athletic abilities, physical coordination, or excel in sports and movement activities.
Condong Public School recognise and nurture high potential and gifted students across all these domains, not just in academic areas, supporting the diverse talents and strengths of students.
We recognise and support HPGE through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school
